The independent research this practice publishes without a client, and what support would change about it.

Some of the work here has no client. It is published because the question is worth answering, which also means nothing pays for the time it takes. This page describes that work and the terms any support would come under.

What is currently unfunded

Independent research and demonstrations, published whether or not they worked. Measuring local economic resilience is an attempt at a resilience measure that small authorities could actually compute, and it is unfinished. Charts that survive without color tests chart encodings that do not depend on hue. Neither was commissioned, and both are published with their limits stated.

What support would change

More of this work reaching a state where someone else can use it. The gap is usually not the analysis but the steps after it: validation against richer data, documentation a non-specialist can follow, and maintenance once something is published and people start depending on it.

Conditions that do not change

A funder does not gain influence over a conclusion, and support is disclosed on the work it paid for. Research that does not support the expected answer is published anyway, and an inconclusive result is reported as inconclusive. That follows from Values and the reporting standard in Research.

What this is not

There is no donation mechanism on this site, and the practice makes no claim to charitable tax status. Support means a grant, a sponsored piece of research, or paid work that permits publication. If you fund work in this area, describe what you are trying to learn and start through the contact page.
